Let’s have a look at all new and upcoming resorts in 2023 in Maldives.
The Maldives is set to welcome 8 new resorts in 2023. The new hotels will be located on different atolls and will all offer luxury accommodations, including private villas with pools, premium restaurants, and world-class spas.
2023 Maldives new opening resorts

8 new resorts are expected to open in 2023 in the Maldives
Some of the most anticipated resorts this year include Six Senses Kanuhura, SO/ Maldives, Avani Fares and JOY Island Maldives. With these new additions, the Maldives will have a total of more than 170 resorts, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world for a such a small country.
In recent years, the Maldives has become an increasingly popular tourist destination. In fact, the Maldives received 1.6 million visitors in 2022, with a new crop of resorts set to open in 2023, that number is only expected to grow.
Remark : like every year ( see my previous Maldives resort opening lists ), some of the resorts that were supposed to open back in 2022, and the years before, might not in 2023.
The same applies to 2023. The following opening dates are announced by press releases and official resort medias available at time of publication ( Jan, 11th 2023 ). Remember they still might change.
Madifushi Private Island. Opening 17th January 2023
Meemu Atoll
Madifushi Private Island is set for opening on January, 17th 2023. Initially scheduled for 2022, the nature centric private island will host 200 villas. Located in Meemu Atoll, a beautiful central area known for having whale sharks and manta rays, the private island will also focus on diving.

Avani fares Maldives. Opening 01st April 2023
Baa Atoll
Avani Hotels and Resorts has announced (again) the opening of their new Maldives property Avani Fares Maldives Resort on 1st April 2023.
Expected since 2020. Avani’s first property in the Maldives will boasts 176 studios, beach villas and over water villas with house reef just steps from the beach, wining, dining and partying on the beach.

Location : Avani Fares Maldives is located in Baa Atoll at 45-minute journey by seaplane from Male and just 30 minutes by speedboat from Baa Atoll domestic airport, Dharavandhoo.

Amari Raaya Maldives. Opening in May 2023
Raa Atoll
Amari Raaya Maldives is set to open in May 2023 without much information released by the brand, excepted that the resort will feature seven dining options a spa and a kids club.
The resort was scheduled for opening in 2022 under the name of Amari Kudakurathu Maldives.

JOY Island. Opening on July 2023
North Male Atoll
Joy Island Maldives, the future new 5-star resort of the renown Cocoon Collection hotel brand, is all set to be unveiled in the pristine soil of North Male Atoll of the Maldives on July 01st 2023.
The resort will feature 150 villas located overwater and on the beach, each with an extravagant amount of guest amenities.
The resort announces several international dining venues serving cuisines from all around the world, a spa with overwater pavilions, a PADI center, a tennis court, water sports center, and a kids club.

Jawakara Islands Maldives. Opening August 1st 2023
Lhaviyani Atoll
Crown & Champa Resorts has announced the opening of Jawakara Islands Maldives on August 1st 2023. Located on its own natural coral island in Lhaviyani Atoll, Jawakara Island Maldives will be a five-star luxury beach destination for families and couples alike. The new resort will feature a total of 290 villas, each designed to provide the ultimate comfort and convenience. Jawakara Islands offers a combination of two islands connected into one resort. This island connection flows with a long stretched bridge over the Jawakara House Reef connecting the islands.

Six Senses Kanuhura. Opening Mid-2023
Lhaviyani Atoll
Six Senses Kanuhura is set for opening on the second quarter of 2023. The resort, which was bought by Six Senses back in 2021, will offer 80 private overwater, beach and spacious family villas offering sunset or sunrise views. Six Senses Kanuhura will also operate on its two completely deserted sister islands, Jehunuhura and Masleggihuraa. The new 5-star eco-luxury resort will offer a romantic setting, discreet wining and dining, deserted beaches, and pioneering wellness for a restful and restorative stay.

SO/ Maldives. Opening in 2023 ( no specific date )
South Male Atoll
SO/ Maldives is scheduled to open in 2023 without specific date. The resort will offer a selection of 80 luxury villas, including beachfront and overwater options, all adorned with designer interiors and an audacious twist.
The 5-star luxury resort is located on the third island of Crossroads Maldives, the first integrated leisure destination located in South Malé Atoll, connecting it to a wealth of world-class attractions and facilities.
SO/ Maldives will join Accor’s collection of five resorts in the Maldives which include the midscale Mercure brand, premium Pullman and Mövenpick brands, and the luxury Raffles and Fairmont brands.

Location : SO/ Maldives is located in South Male Atoll at 15 minutes by speedboat from Male international airport.

Zazz Escapes Maldives. Opening in 2023 ( no specific date )
South Ari Atoll
ZAZZ Escapes Maldives is set for opening since last year. The former Ranveli Island is again schedule for 2023, but still without precise date nor further information. The upcoming resort is announced to be an adult-only resort offering 101 overwater and beach villas in five categories.
The resort should also feature six restaurants and bars, an excellent wellness program including a spa as well as several watersports and activities. If nothing changes, Zazz Maldives will be managed by Pulse Hotels & Resorts ( the Maldivian brand behind Kandima, The Nautilus, Niyama Private Islands…)

Category : 5-star Luxury.
Location : ZAZZ Escapes Maldives is located in South Ari Atoll, just 25 minutes by seaplane from Male international airport or 90 minutes by speedboat.

The missing resorts in 2023
The 3 resorts which are “missing”, year after year, are the same in 2023 : Tolarno Maldives Kunaavashi Resort, The Address Madivaru Resort & Spa both announced for opening in 2020 and 2021, and Gran Meliá Huravee announced each year since 2017.
Manya Faru didn’t open in 2022 as scheduled. No further details are yet disclosed for 2023.
