Soneva Jani features something extraordinary.
The retractable roof system opens right above the master bedrooms
It opens in about 22 seconds and spans a spectacular 4 by 4 meters. The system is equipped with a rain sensor. When rainfall is detected the roof closes automatically.
The system was developed by the Dutch Studio Arne Boon, a creative design agency, the same mastermind behind a similar project at Soneva Fushi, in Maldives.
Sonu and Eva, behind Soneva Brand, discovered that guests at their Soneva Gili (now Gili Lankanfushi) resort were taking pillows out onto their decks to sleep under the stars.
This prompted them to look into how they could offer the same experience to guests from the comfort of their villas.
A similar spectacular roofing system was created at the Out of The Blue dining destination. The roof slide up on a slope and opens up right above the chefs table for an exquisite dining experiences under the twinkling night sky.
