We’ve just been officially informed that the beautiful Soneva Gili has been finally acquired by HPL ( Hotel Properties Limited ) and will be rebranded as Gili Lankanfushi Maldives
HPL is a Singapore based Company investing in Hotels, Lifestyle and Properties around the World and owner in Maldives of Rihiveli, Four Seasons Kuda Huraa, Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru and Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma.
Six Senses Resorts and Spas go further into reshaping with this NEWS that closely follows the one published in April 2012 : All Six Senses Resorts and Spa, including Six Senses Laamu acquired by Pegasus Capital.
Both events came after Sonu Shivdasani’s ( the founder of Six Senses Resorts & Spas) decision to sell the Six Senses and Evason brands in February 2012 in order to focus on a smaller amount of properties only (Soneva Fushi and Soneva Kiri as well as opening new privately owned resorts in the future)
The deal is scheduled to close within the next few weeks.
– Sonu Shivdasani, the Chairman and CEO of The Soneva Group, said on the press-release: “This is in keeping with our decision to focus on developing private residences at Soneva branded resorts. Soneva Gili did not offer that potential. We will also focus on developing further Soneva resorts that will include a significant number of residential options ( AN : for many years, “anybody” can be owner of a Villa and land at Soneva Fushi for i.e for around US$ 3 million )
The Soneva Group is looking at other remote but accessible islands to re-create an additional resort in the Maldives with the potential to sell overwater private residences in keeping with the new strategy.
The current Soneva Gili, which only has 17 years left on its lease, is close to Malé, the capital island in the Maldives and is surrounded by new developments.
The ideal location for a new Soneva will be in an atoll with less traffic and greater potential for developing private residences in tranquil surroundings.”
