The Maldives have made it mandatory, with effect from 10th September, for all tourists and short term visitors to present a Negative COVID-19 PCR certificate on arrival in Maldives.
UPDATE October 14th, The PCR test can now have 96 hours validity.
In order to maintain a level of safety, many countries are requiring incoming visitors to have a negative PCR COVID-19 test.
The Maldives had initially decided to do the same but finally changed the entry procedure to the country making it not mandatory.
All tourists and short term visitors should present a negative COVID-19 test at airport arrival.
The Ministry of Tourism of Maldives announced yesterday that all tourists and short term visitors should present a negative COVID-19 test at airport arrival.
The said PCR test must be conducted within a maximum of 72 96 hours prior to departure to Maldives.
This short notice, as respectable as it is, puts some travelers who were supposed to arrive in the next days in difficulty. The test results can take several days in some countries due to the resurgence of the virus everywhere around the world.
Rapid PCR tests with results within 72 hours of arrival when traveling very long hauls was pretty much impossible for many countries of departure. Many travelers had cancel and reschedule their trips to the Maldives.
This October 14th, the validity has been extended to 96 hours.
Many countries ask for a PCR Negative test
The Maldives are not the only country to make the PCR test mandatory. Other destinations are requiring incoming travelers to present a negative COVID-19 test for entry like Tahiti in French Polynesia, UAE, Seychelles, several countries in Europe and Asia, most of Carribean Islands…

Other countries have restrictions and requirements such as quarantines and mandatory declaration forms
- Passengers traveling to Germany are required to quarantine for 14 days
- Passengers traveling to the United Kingdom must complete an online contact detail form 48 hours prior to departure and are subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival.
- Passengers traveling to Israel are subject first to a 14-day mandatory quarantine and two must complete a Quarantine Declaration Form.
- Passengers travelling to Australia are required to undergo 14-day quarantine
