Why I’m Saying ‘No, Thanks’ to the Maldives Floating Breakfast Trend.
Seriously ? Have you imagined eating in the water of your pool ?
Picture this : You take a bite of your pancakes, and just as you’re about to savor the syrupy goodness, a wave nudges your tray. Suddenly, your breakfast is doing a backstroke.
Not exactly the peaceful morning you had in mind, right ?
And have you ever tried fishing a croissant out of a pool? Trust me, it’s not as easy (or as appetizing) as it sounds!

We’ve all seen those photos of floating breakfasts in the Maldives : a tray filled with delicious food floating in a pool, with a backdrop of turquoise water, a girl, a man, or both. It looks like paradise, right ? But here’s the truth – those floating breakfasts might not be as great as they seem.
Dreaming of a floating breakfast in Maldives ?
A Dreamy breakfast in the Maldives? Yes.
But it really depends on the breakfast !
Why are Maldives Floating Breakfasts Overrated ?
The idea of a floating breakfast in the Maldives sounds incredible, the reality is often less than perfect. Next time you see those dreamy photos on Instagram, remember that a cozy breakfast at a stable table might just be the better choice. It’s all about comfort, ease, and truly enjoying your meal without the hassle – and without chasing your food around the pool !
While floating breakfasts might look nice in photos to grab views on instagram, the reality can be quite different.
Here are a few reasons why :
About the impracticality of floating breakfasts in the Maldives.
While floating breakfasts might look nice in photos to grab views on instagram, the reality can be quite different.
Here are a few reasons why :
1. Yes. They’re Wobbly
Let’s be honest, keeping a tray steady in water is tricky. The slightest movement can make it wobble, spilling your juice or knocking over your coffee. It’s hard to relax when you’re constantly worrying about your food tipping over.
2. Your beautiful floating breakfast might get Wet and Messy
Say hello to floating butter ! Eating in a pool sounds fun until you realize how wet and messy it can get. Your hands get wet, the napkins get soggy, and it’s a struggle to keep everything dry and clean.
3. These floating trays are Ridiculously Big
These floating trays have become rafts of food. The bigger the better for the views. Seriously, have you seen the size of some of these floating breakfast trays? They’re getting so big that it becomes ridiculous. You end up with a giant raft of food, which is more about the photo op than actually enjoying a meal. It’s like they’re trying to serve a banquet in a bathtub.
4. Eating on water is Not Practical
If you’re a master Ninja, you might enjoy the challenge. Simple tasks like cutting fruit or spreading butter become a balancing act. It’s much harder to enjoy your breakfast when you’re fighting to keep your plate steady and your food intact.
Maldives Table Breakfasts Are Dreamy and so confortable
Maldives table breakfasts are so much better, dreamy, comfortable and well,… easier.
Furthermore, in the Maldives, breakfast options are endless and great : on the terrace of our villa, by the pool, or even on our private beach, depending on the hotel. Even at the main restaurant ( some of them have sand on their floor ! ), and, to top it off, if tables are set up on the beach, it’s always a dreamy moment.
Compared to floating breakfasts, enjoying your meal at a table is way more relaxing. Here’s why:
1. Eating at a table Is Stable and Easy
A table gives you a firm, stable surface to eat on. You don’t have to worry about anything tipping over or falling into the water. You can cut, spread, and pour with ease.
2. it’s Comfortable
Sitting comfortably at a table lets you truly enjoy your food. You can focus on the flavors and savor each bite without any distractions.
3. It causes much Less Stress
With a table, everything is within easy reach and you don’t have to worry about things getting wet or messy. It’s a more peaceful and enjoyable experience overall.
This is what A Dreamy table breakfast in Maldives looks like
As much as I love the idea of a floating breakfast, I have to admit, the reality is a bit like trying to juggle flaming torches while riding a unicycle on a tightrope over a pit of hungry crocodiles.
Maybe I’m just not cut out for this level of breakfast multitasking, but hey, at least it’s an adventure every morning, right?
What do you think—is this breakfast balancing act worth the circus, or do you prefer a solid, stationary table ?
