Initially scheduled for February 2021, Marriott announces that Le Meridien Maldives Resort & Spa will open in September 2021.
Marriott International’s is already operating resorts on several islands in Maldives : The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, W Maldives, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort, and JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa.
With the opening of Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa, Marriott will launch its 7th resort in the Maldives.
A closer look at Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa
We don’t know much about the resort before its opening.

Le Meridien hasn’t communicated much information yet about the resort but keeps us waiting with some first details.
What we know about the resort
Le Méridien Maldives is nestled in north Maldives on the island of Thilamaafushi, in Lhaviyani Atoll, at 35-minute by seaplane from Male International airport.
The resort will span over 9 hectares and offer 144 villas on the beach and over water, 6 Dining venues, a kids club and a spa.
The company promises a playful sanctuary for families and couples who seek to encounter the unexpected in a sought-after destination.
The Island
There are yet no aerial images of Le Meridien Maldives, I instead found this view of the resort to give you an idea of the island surroundings.
The resort is located on a long island surrounded by a big blue lagoon in the beautiful Lhaviyani Atoll and will offer access to 50 dive sites.
Island photos shows that the island is surrounded by a big lagoon which is typical of Lhaviyani Atoll, thus there is snorkeling close-by.
The Villas and Suites
The resort announces to feature 144 Villas located on the beach over the lagoon.
Unfortunately no photos nor artist impressions are yet released, so it is difficult to imagine the interiors and overall design.
Beach Villas
Le Méridien Maldives announces 3 categories of Beach Villas with or without Pool with ocean views or lagoon views.
Families or friends will enjoy a 2-bedroom beach villa.
The resort beach villas have direct beach access, hammocks and private pools.
Water Villas
The resort will feature 3 categories of Water Villas with or without pool. Some water villas will face the sunset.
Restaurants and Bars
Guests at Le Méridien will be able to choose from 6 culinary experiences featuring a mix of global cuisines.
The resort announces 2 signatures restaurants including a Japanese dining venue located overwater, 1 café, 1 grill and 1 bar.
Turquoise. International
Eclectic in design & cuisine, Turquoise is a fresh interactive marketplace where guests can graze from breakfast to dinner with fresh ocean breezes & endless vistas. Guests will enjoy local dishes alongside Asian favorites & modern European tastes.
Tabemasu. Japanese-European restaurant
Defined as “to eat” in Japanese, Tabemasu is a distinct dining experience where art, design and cuisine are fused to create a chic dining journey featuring regional tastes that meld modern & traditional techniques with an haute-French mise en place.
Waves Cafe
Waves café is designed as a space for mindfully conscious eating and drinking with wholesome ingredients presented in a simply light uncomplicated fashion. Celebrate the power of produce with organic and sustainably sourced ingredients.
Velaa Bar + Grill
The resort main bar, called Velaa , is a Bar & Grill.
Velaa is announced to offer a cool and chic beachside lounging, morning till night.
The Hub & Longitude Bar
Longitude is the social hub of the resort that transitions from a relaxed living space and café serving refreshing eye openers and Illy coffee by day to a sparkling evening ambiance where guests can discover a modern twist to aperitif hour accompanied by destination-inspired Petit Plates.
The Spa
Explore Spa, Le Meridien signature Spa is located overwater. The resort announces a place to rejuvenate and energise.
Amongst several treatments the spa will offer Body scrubs and wraps, Couple’s Massage, Facials, Fitness classes and counseling, Foot bath, Hair & scalp treatments, In-suite massage, Makeup Services, and Massage lessons.
The Kids Club
Le Meridien Maldives is also destined to kids with a kids club and a dedicated pool area.
The Resort Leisure and activities
Le Méridien Maldives promises to offer a wide range of activities including scuba diving, snorkeling and sailing.
Several excursions and water sports will be proposed including canoeing, kayaking, water-skiing and windsurfing.
The classical Maldivian excursions will be offered : Island hopping, cocktail cruises, big game deep-sea fishing and more.
The resort promises a beautiful fitness center called Waves Fitness and two outdoor swimming pools at Velaa the main bar and another one for adults only at Riviera.
Waves Lifestyle Hub
Waves Lifestyle Hub is a haven for mindful well-being. The hub features an ocean facing fitness studio and yoga pavilion positioned high in the jungle and is complete with a nourishing café, art gallery and retail.
