In Maldives, the dream of becoming a mermaid becomes a reality. Four resorts, together with PADI, offer this opportunity.
And the best : you don’t need to be a diver !
Explore the Maldives underwater world as a mermaid
Imagine gliding gracefully through the water, your shimmering tail propelling you forward, as you explore the Maldives underwater world. No experience is necessary as your professional, certified PADI Mermaid Instructor will teach you everything from the equipment and how to use it to basic mermaiding skills.
Once your lesson done you will get a certification too !
What is the PADI Mermaid program?
The PADI Mermaid™ program is open to anyone from 6 years old to women and men and it doesn’t require you to have a scuba or freediver certification. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced diver, it caters to all skill levels. Starting with the basics of breath control and swimming techniques, you will progress at your own pace, gradually building strength and confidence in the water.
There are 4 different courses and levels you can choose from, starting from beginner to advance level. A recognition will be given at the end of the session, this will be your first PADI mermaid diploma.
The first step is the Basic Mermaid™, which consisits of a combination of a bit of theory and 1 practical pool session to get the basics.
Once done, you will be certified as PADI Basic Mermaid as proof of your newly acquired magical powers !
If you want to go beyond the basics, you can enroll in the full PADI Mermaid course.
For this, you must be at least ten years old and be able to swim at least 50m/160ft without swim aids, able to float comfortably at the surface for at least 5 mins and in good physical health.
The equipment :
In the PADI Mermaid course, you will use a monofin (i.e. mermaid tail), mask, snorkel and fins. You may also use a wetsuit and weight belt. Using gear designed specifically for mermaiding is best; however, in this beginner course, you may be able to use snorkeling equipment you already own. If you are a freediver, some of your gear (e.g. mask, fins, and snorkel) is also mermaiding gear.
